REEES and Diversity

REEES is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our program strives to illuminate the complex ethnic, racial, religious, cultural, and linguistic diversity of a vast region, spanning from Eastern Europe to the Russian Far East. Gender, class, race, ethnicity, and religion are just some of the many topics addressed by our faculty in their teaching and research.

Located in the only U.S. state where Russian is the third most commonly spoken language, REEES has also been involved in outreach to the local Russian-speaking community through the sponsorship of an annual Russian play. In recent years, we have dedicated ourselves to the organization of lectures, workshops, and conferences that address diversity within Slavic studies with a particular emphasis on language, race, ethnicity, and LGTBQ issues.
