REEES sponsors a number of events and cultural activities, which enhance our academic programs and are open to all interested students (majors and non-majors alike). Chief among them are Russian Theatre and Russian Club.
Every winter, REEES senior instructor Dr. Julia Nemirovskaya stages a bilingual, Russian-English play that she adapts from Russian literary works or writes herself based on Russian themes. Dr. Nemirovskaya guides students who sign up for her RUSS 309/609 Russian Through Theater course, as they learn their lines, make costumes, and coordinate lighting, sound, and stage effects. The program culminates in two gala performances attended by hundreds of audience members from the university and the surrounding community.

REEES has an active Russian club, which is run by UO students in cooperation with Slavic librarian Heghine Hakobyan and REEES senior lecturer Dr. Yelaina Kripkov. The club sponsors a number of different cultural events including poetry readings, film viewings, sing-alongs, craft workshops, and holiday parties; it also maintains a Russian cooking blog. You can learn more about Russian cuisine and the activities of the Russian club on their blog, A Taste of Russia
