REEES Alum Named as American Council’s Next President and CEO

American Councils for International Education and its Board of Trustees appointed David Patton, PhD, as the third president and CEO to lead the 45-year-old nonprofit. Patton received his bachelor’s degree in Russian Studies from the University of Oregon in 1984.

Prof. Susanna Soojung Lim To Join REEES Core Faculty

In fall 2018, Prof. Susanna Soojung Lim, a longtime participating faculty member in REEES, will join the REEES core faculty. Prof. Lim is an expert in Russian literature and culture of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in the context of Russia’s relationship to Asia. She also studies transnational and cross-cultural issues linking Russia and modern Korean literature. We all look forward to her innovative courses on Russian literature and culture.

“Chekhov, Love & All That,” based on two comedies by Anton Chekhov, will be performed on Saturday, March 10th at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 11th at 2:30 p.m. in 123 Global Scholars Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Nemirovskaya Publishes a New Novel

REEES Introduces a New Major and Minor

As of fall, 2017 students can pursue a new, streamlined REEES major and minor with concentrations in Russian language, literature, and culture and Russian and Eastern European history, culture, and society. Guidelines for the new major and minor can be found at the following link:

Anyone declaring a REEES major or minor this fall will be expected to go by these new guidelines. Students who declared a REEES major or minor prior to fall, 2017 have the option of sticking with the old guidelines or switching to the new ones.
